So, I guess if blogging about exercise and weight loss efforts is fatblogging, then doing the same on Twitter is fat microblogging?

Or does anybody even use the term microblogging for Twitter anymore? It sounds as antiquated as Information Superhighway at this point.

Five days in New York City with lots of food and drink, combined with little amounts of sleep never turn up a good result.

So no scale check-in for the week. But since I returned home I’ve been running regularly.

I am on vacation with the family this week, so it limits my ability to go for runs, but I’ll make treadmill time if nothing else.

The thing that stinks there is that I like to track what I’m doing, average speed for miles, length run, etc. through my Nike+ device in my sneakers and my iPod Touch.

While it tracks well outside, there are only certain treadmills that work with the Nike+ device, so I’m out of luck.

So I’ll have some unmetered exercise this week. You can see my progress to date on my Nike+ account.

Since all of my runs are tracked, and I’ve been buying my shoes direct from Nike, I think it would be a great and logical move by them to tell me when it’s time for a new pair, based on the expected mileage a given pair have in them.

I am guessing the average person doesn’t get a fresh pair of shoes as often as they should, though I could be entirely wrong.

Anyhow, I’d love to know the right time to do it and whip out my credit card each time to Nike. Come on, guys – help me help you!

Starting weight: 225
Last week: 219
This week: not checking in Affiliate Summit aftermath

But for anybody going to Affiliate Summit who has the running bug, there is going to be a morning run in Central Park led by Peter Shankman.

Runners are meeting at the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park at 5:30 am on Tuesday, August 11. Later that morning, Peter will be delivering the keynote address at Affiliate Summit.

Peter is the author of one of my favorite business books, “Can We Do That?” and he also runs Help a Report Out (HARO).

Also, I recently came across an online community for runners called StartRunning.com. It’s a great, friendly place for meeting other runners, asking questions, etc.

Last week, I was at the Google Affiliate Network Client Summit at the Google campus in Mountain View, CA

That trip was another case of three days off from exercise, though I could have squeezed it in if I really wanted. We were staying in Palo Alto, across from the Standford campus, and some other folks ran there.

It was a productive event, and they served up fine food and drink at Google – too fine, in fact. And one night I went out for some cajun – tasty gumbo and Jambalaya.

So anyway, it was my worst week in a while – plus two pounds.

This week I am trying to make it up by going out to run all but one day. I’ll miss the update next week, because of Affiliate Summit, but will be back the following week, and expect to report that I’m lower than this week.

This week: 219

I am excited about the next run, because it’s the same route as my first 5k, which punished me with hills I didn’t expect.

This time around I’ll be ready for those nasty inclines.

Also, I would like to give a shout out to Peter Shankman, author of “Can We Do That?” and head of Help a Reporter Out, as well as one of the keynote speakers at Affiliate Summit in a couple weeks.

Earlier this week, Peter completed the Nautica NYC Triathlon. An impressive and inspiring job, Mr. Shankman.

I aspire to do that one day. In the meantime, I had better focus on some 5k, 10k, and duathlon competitions.

Up until now, I’ve just been wearing a cotton t-shirt and shorts, and each time I finish I am just soaked with sweat and totally uncomfortable.

I usually wear a baseball cap, too. But I was reading that it was better to wear a visor to shield your eyes from the sun and not trap in the heat. So I picked up an Under Armour visor.

I also picked up some Nike Dri-FIT shorts and shirts. This line from Nike wicks sweat away and keeps me dry and comfortable. I tried it once so far and it worked great.

In the past I would just grab any white socks from the drawer, but I purchased some Nike Dri-FIT socks, and they were more comfortable than the regular old things.

On another note, I just got issue 7 of FeedFront Magazine in the mail with a cover story on treadmill desks (p 7), as well as profiles of a bunch of affiliate fatbloggers (p 23).

One of the things I liked about the affiliate fatblogging profiles were the “power song(s)” for each of them.

As I was preparing for the race, I saw a lot of 5k tutorials that recommended working up to it over 6-12 weeks, and I probably pushed myself too quick into it (all in just a few weeks).

Also, all of my practice was on flat trails, and I was brutally surprised by the inclines during the 5k.

So while I finished it, and I am satisfied about that, I would have loved to have a better time. I think I’ll go back to the drawing board and run shorter lengths to properly build up my speed and stamina.

Here are my embarrassing stats…

Yep, 22 out of 22 for my age/gender group of guys aged 35-39 and 360th overall. No medal this time around. There were children ahead of me!

Anyhow, I’ve been looking around for other races in the area and plan to run some 5k’s in September and October.

As far as the weight, I’m still stuck at 218. While I exercised a whole lot leading up to the 5k, I also made a trip down to Maryland for the Tax Talk & Crab Feast at the buy.at office, and mixed some great networking with too many eats and drinks.
