Initially, I got a Lapdawg to attach to the treadmill, but it was sitting too low to comfortably work.

So I ordered a SurfShelf, and it just came. The SurfShelf sits at just the right height for me to type, as it’s attached to the top of the treadmill, rather than resting on the bars.

I’ll have pictures of the whole, new setup soon.

I’ve got a 32″ TV attached to the wall, so a computer can run through it at a good height, so I don’t have to look down at a laptop.

I also have a new computer on the way, which will be dedicated to the treadmill, plus a wireless mouse and keyboard. I can’t wait to have all of the pieces in place.

My intention was always to make it into a treadmill desk, so I can work while exercising on days when I can’t fit both in.

I am starting with a Lapdawg, which is an adjustable desk that can be fitted onto a treadmill.

Morgan Thomas of EDK Innovations uses one of these for his treadmill desk, so I figured I would give it shot.

Not sure it will work out, though. I can work on it while walking three miles an hour, but it sits a little low for me, so I am sort of hunched over when using it.

The good news is that I think I can sustain three miles an hour and work without a problem. I was reading where some people go at like a mile and hour, and I simply couldn’t handle walking that slow.

On to some other desk options for the treadmill, though. Maybe a desk that stands over the treadmill, so I can adjust the height for good ergonomics.

By the way, this post was written while walking on the treadmill.

The treadmill desk is sort of a weird concept to some people, but I’d like to have it as an option on days I am not able to make it out to the gym or don’t feel like going for a run outside.

I bought the Precor 9.23 – it’s the lower end of Precor machines, since I didn’t want the bells and whistles, but I did want the quality and durability of Precor – they are the machines used by many gyms.

Also, I am planning to use it exclusively for walking, since I have outside and the gym for running, so that should hopefully prolong the life of it.

Anyhow, this is my first step – it gets delivered in 6 days!

I’ve been reading about other folks working on treadmills, and it seems like a great way to optimize time.

But I’ve been apprehensive about investing in a treadmill, since I have a gym membership, and not really any place to put it.

Besides, I figured I could rig a desk on a treadmill, but I’m not particularly handy. So, I was excited to come across SurfShelf.com, which enables you to connect a laptop to a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike.

It looks easy to set up and doesn’t cost too much. Maybe I should get one of these things going, even if I’d have to use it in the garage.
