I ran in the inaugural Damon Runyon 5K Run/Walk for Cancer Research yesterday at Yankee Stadium and raised $2,570. My goal was $3,500, and while I didn’t reach it in advance, donations can be made through December 18, 2009.

According to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, more than $300,000 was raised for cancer research. How about a little more, affiliate marketers?!

100% of the money raised will be used by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation to fund innovative research by today’s most brilliant young scientists, who are racing to find the causes and cures for all types of cancer.

It was a really near experience to run through all of the areas of Yankee Stadium for a 5k. We entered at the Great Hall.

And then we moved near Section 120 to start it off on the 100 level concourse.

During the run, I slowed down a couple times for pictures from my Blackberry. Here is a shot from the upper deck. You can see runners along the warning track.

And I snapped a picture from near the Yankees dugout while doing one of the two laps around the warning track.

I will be running the inaugural Damon Runyon 5K Run/Walk for Cancer Research at Yankee Stadium this coming Sunday, and I just got the route we’ll be taking.

This is certainly a different sort of path, and I can’t wait to do it Sunday morning.

• START LINE on the 100 level concourse, near Section 120
• Run two laps around the 100 level concourse
• After second lap, near Section 126, turn left behind concessions, then take ramp to sub-zero level
• Run through the sub-zero level
• Exit the sub-zero level between the Bullpen and Monument Park, turn right onto warning track
• Run two laps around the warning track that circles the field
• Exit warning track to the right, return to sub-zero level
• Run back through sub-zero level, turn left toward right field stairs
• Climb 103 steps to 200 level concourse
• Run the length of the 200 level concourse toward left field stairs (near Section 234)
• Climb 64 steps to 300 level concourse
• Run the length of the 300 level concourse (Water stop located in front of Jim Beam Suite near Section 320)
• At Section 310, turn right down ramp near Gate 6, then take ramp down to the Great Hall
• Run short distance through Great Hall (please stay to your right)
• Turn right up the Great Hall stairs to 200 level concourse
• Climb 55 steps to 200 level concourse
• Run the length of the 200 level concourse toward left field stairs (near Section 234)
• Climb 64 steps to 300 level concourse
• Run the length of the 300 level concourse (Water stop located in front of Jim Beam Suite near Section 320)
• At Section 310, turn right down ramp near Gate 6, then take ramp down to the Great Hall
• Run short distance through to FINISH LINE in Great Hall (please stay to your left)

These will be some great views, but all those steps! I’d better take some Advil before the race.

This unique event will actually take place inside Yankee Stadium. Runners will get to explore the Stadium and finish with a lap around the warning track that circles the field.
